Thesis Statement

For my Senior Thesis at Parsons I wanted to do a project that would integrate the environment in which I live in. Living in New York City it is easy to get absorbed in the everyday routine and the artifice that surrounds us. There is a tendency to lose sight of nature, even something as vast as the sky. My goal is to open up the space in which we explore on a daily basis and simply to look up and all around. I want to bring the sky, a piece of nature, down to us.

To achieve this I am installing constellation lighting sculptures throughout the city (mostly on fences). The sculptures are made out of brass tubing and galvanized wire with single battery operated LEDs attached. I am beginning first with the area I live in, which is Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I want to expand this project throughout the other parts of Brooklyn and the boroughs and eventually to the different states.
